As a 2nd year medical student, Hanna embraces the struggles and time commitment required of anyone studying medicine. During my brief conversation with Hanna, he emphasized just how fascinating the human body truly is. He mentioned that the amount of information to be learned is monumental, but required in order to care for those in our communities.
Hanna also shared a short narrative with me involving his final year of his undergraduate education. His professor of evolution required the class to search for the origin of the novel coronavirus, which at the time was known as SARS-CoV-2 or nCOV-19. Hanna particularly remembers studying about the transmission of the virus through bats and pangolins at food markets. At this time, the virus was isolated to the Eastern hemisphere. Within a month, Hanna was out of school and required to continue his education strictly online due to the rapid spread of the virus.
Hanna mentions that he began his career as a medical student at one of the most unusual times in modern day history. As a future physician, Hanna knows that he has a responsibility to be an upstanding member of society by contributing to the spread of truthful knowledge. He has kept this in mind as he traversed through the controversial times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, he has not allowed these circumstances to deter him from spreading truth and positivity, and Hanna continues to be an educator for those who look to him for inspiration.
